We define wellness as a synthesis of 5 elements of health that allow for optimal living. The elements are: health screenings, health education, healthy eating, peace of mind, & active living.
Our wellness programs encompass them all with screenings for the underinsured, treatments for breast cancer patients, assistance for at-risk youth.
Tennis provides for healthy activity and a fun way for individuals to improve self-confidence & esteem, cardiovascular fitness, socialization, teamwork, goal-setting, focus and many other positive human traits and characteristics..
Our tennis programs are designed to engage people in their own health.
A Letter from the Founder:
As Founder of G Alex Foundation, I have a personal connection to four of the most prevalent medical conditions in the United States--Diabetes, Hypertension, Kidney Disease, and Prostate Cancer. That experience compelled me to establish the Foundation so I could help others facing similar medical issues.
I was diagnosed with Hypertension at age 12, and my mother Doris was as well earlier in her life. Both my mother and my nephew were diagnosed with Diabetes. And Michelle, my cousin and friend, developed Kidney Disease in her late teens. After 20+ years of dialysis and a failed kidney transplant, Michelle terminated treatment and passed in summer 2009.
In December of 2009, my mother had colon re-sectioning surgery to remove cancerous cells. Her body failed to thrive post-surgery and she passed away on Good Friday 2010. In January 2013, one of my sisters-in-law Betty died suddenly from cardiac arrest at age 58. And my brother Kenny was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in December 2009. By July 2010, 3 months after oir mother’s death, he was paralyzed when the cancer spread and wrapped around his spine. In the following three years, Kenny battled the disease with a positive attitude. He remained strong to the end, which was 8 minutes after his 51st birthday in 2013.
In all three cases of Doris, Betty and Kenny, early detection and treatment may have saved their lives, but certainly allowed for a better quality of life. After so many heart-breaking family losses, I recognized a severe gap in local servies available for such crucial early intervention for the four big medical conditions plaguing Americans. While there are many resources for Breast Cancer and Heart Disease, I saw a lack of preventative screenings for Prostate Cancer, Diabetes, Hypertension and Kidney Disease.
I know from personal experience the toll late diagnoses can take and that's why I firmly believe in early detection and intervention. “It’s one thing to find out that you’re at Stage 4 or 5 of a critical disease and another to learn about it at Stage 1, 2 or 3. With the latter, there’s more of a fighting chance.” Glen Alex
We at G Alex Foundation believe that health is vital to a happy and productive life, and we need your support for us to continue providing health options for the under-served. The preventative screenings give those affected that fighting chance to manage their disease and our provisions for the developmental needs of at-risk and low-income middle school students assist them in becoming the healthiest and most productive adults they can be.
We deeply appreciate your cash donation, event sponsorship, in-kind donation, and volunteerism. All contributions help us continue to spread the health.
